About Program Description 

Over 6 months, Discovery Education and War Child worked in partnership to deliver extracurricular lessons to over 5,000 students in Grades 7 to 12 who were at risk of dropping out of education across five regions in Lebanon, with a focus on Math’s and Science. Over 200 teachers were recruited to deliver these lessons using Discovery Education’s digital learning platform, containing content aligned to the Lebanese curriculum standards, which both teachers and students had unlimited access to for the duration of the project.

The project was carried out over two consecutive cycles, with the objectives to:

Increase the number of students accessing learning through the digital platform
Provide an approach that was flexible
Give access to engaging material that enabled independent learning
Improve teacher confidence in using digital tools to deliver content
Improve the academic and learning outcomes of students

Program Description

Besides equipping children with the necessary academic skills to build their own lives, education allows refugee children to access a normal childhood and feel included within their community. In many cases, the most vulnerable refugee families are unable to afford the additional costs that come with education, often meaning that children either do not access education at all or must drop out. UNHCR supported around 700 non-Syrian refugee youth from the most vulnerable families to stay in school by helping them to cover the costs of education. Jordan hosts refugees from other Arab conflict affected countries; such as Iraq, Yemen, and Sudan, in addition to those from 52 other nationalities. (UNHCR Dec 2019).

Program Description

YouLEAD provides access to remedial and language support for over 6,000 Syrian refugee and host community youth between the ages of 13-18 and are at risk of dropping out and encouraging them to stay in school. The program provides remedial and language support. Remedial support is based on the official curriculum with sessions designed to help students with their everyday classwork and focuses on the most challenging subjects. It provides innovative, scalable and impact driven solutions by the integration of child protection activities to respond to the multi-layered and complex reality faced by out of school refugee youth.

Remedial Education – Relief International

About Relief International (RI)

RI is a humanitarian, non-profit, non-sectarian agency that provides emergency relief, rehabilitation and development services worldwide. RI has worked in Jordan since 2004 and is actively engaged in the Syria crisis both in Jordan and regionally since the onset of the conflict in 2011. Since 2013, RI has been working hard to address the education challenges faced by Syrian refugee children and youth in Za’atari and Azraq Camps through the implementation of high quality longstanding multi-faceted education programming.

Program Description

Providing remedial education to Syrian refugees attending formal schools from grades 8 -12 living in Azraq Refugee Camp for the 2019/2020 school year. The program coordinates closely with the Ministry of Education to include their signature Tawjihi (12th Grade) support component, language support, and student counselling. RI also provides Early Childhood Development (ECD) targeting children aged 0 – 5 years of young mothers and other caregivers (such as older siblings) who are students in the remedial education program, ensuring that these students will still be able to complete their education.

In this program, Alfanar works with two of its investees and provides them with support, and real-time monitoring support to enable them to scale their impact and enhance productivity.

Program Description

The program empowers vulnerable refugee and host community youth to stay and succeed in school despite the multiple challenges they face. Through education and volunteering, MMKN developed an adapted supplementary curriculum that bridges the existing knowledge gap and strengthens students’ academic skills in those critical years that culminate the official Brevet Exam (9th Grade official exam). The program was able to support over 3,000 refugee and host community youth.

Program Description

Rainbow is a one-year educational program that serves around 150 Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian youth from marginalized refugee communities enrolled in grades 7 and 8. The overall objective of the program is to educate and empower Palestinian and Syrian refugees and vulnerable Lebanese with the academic skills and raised confidence to unlock their potential, continue formal education, and increase their possibilities to qualify for university or vocational degrees to increase their livelihoods.

About Unite Lebanon Youth Project (ULYP)

Program Description

Change supports over 300 secondary school students to help them achieve and develop, both academically and personally, to feel confident and prepared for their future. Change addresses the barriers that include lack of counseling services and access to preparatory / bridge programs for refugees. It provides guidance, motivation, and academic support for over 300 11th grade refugee students to stay and succeed in school. It focuses on building the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue post-secondary education and afterwards, employment. Students are also exposed to exam preparation, to date over 80% attained higher grades after the first year. In addition to the academic support, students are exposed to real world skills; such as time management, problem solving, life skills, self-confidence and more. The Change program is implemented in three centers in Beirut, Saida and Mount Lebanon.

About the Emirates Red Crescent

The Emirates Red Crescent is a volunteer humanitarian organization that supports official authorities in times of peace and war. It was established on the 31st of January, 1983 and was internationally attested as a member of the international Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in 1986.

Program Description

The United Arab Emirates has become a temporary home to hundreds of families who have fled war, conflict, and disaster in their home countries. Over the course of three years, this program supported over 1000 Arab children and youth who fall under this category and whose families are unable to afford school fees. Through the ambitious efforts of the Emirates Red Crescent, at-risk students are identified thorough vulnerability assessments in order to provide a comprehensive understanding of their financial status. Students who are found to be in financial need have their enrolment and tuition fees supported to avoid the high risk of school drop-out. Supported students are in grades 9 – 12 and are distributed across all Emirates. In addition to providing refugee youth residing in the Mrajeeb Al Fhood refugee camp in Jordan, that is funded by the UAE, with scholarships to Luminus Technical University College.
