T<\/span>he\u00a0<\/span>Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair Refugee Education Fund<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>(REF)\u00a0<\/span>has announced<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a new\u00a0<\/span>firs<\/span>t<\/span>\u00a0of its kind\u00a0<\/span>partnership with\u00a0<\/span>Discovery Education<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>deliver\u00a0<\/span>award winning<\/span>\u00a0online learning<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>increasing<\/span>\u00a0access to education<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>for<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>thousands of\u00a0<\/span>refugees and vulnerable youth\u00a0<\/span>in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Lebanon.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair Covid-19 Online Learning Emergency Fund for Refugee Education<\/span><\/a>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>was launched by H.E. Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair in April 2020<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to ensure vulnerable populations<\/span>\u00a0are able to continue their learning without interruption<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>This\u00a0<\/span>partnership with Discovery Education will help<\/span>\u00a0fill the\u00a0<\/span>educational gaps<\/span>\u00a0that have emerged\u00a0<\/span>because of<\/span>\u00a0the COVID -19 crisis.\u202f<\/span>This program will reach 5,000 at-risk students in addition to<\/span>\u00a0over\u00a0<\/span>17,500 students<\/span>\u00a0already being helped by REF in Jordan,\u00a0<\/span>Lebanon,<\/span>\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span>UAE<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the partnership with the\u00a0<\/span>Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair Refugee Education Fund<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>and for the first time ever,\u00a0<\/span>Discovery Education\u00a0<\/span>will collaborate with local organizations\u00a0<\/span>in Lebanon\u00a0<\/span>to provide access<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>high<\/span>–<\/span>quality\u00a0<\/span>digital learning resources<\/span>\u00a0aligned\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the Lebanese curriculum<\/span>\u00a0for students in Grade 8<\/span>\u00a0\u2013 12<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>This partnership is a component of the Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair Refugee Education Fund\u2019s effort to help 5,000 refugees and marginalized youth communities transition to Grades 9 and 12 and give them a chance to succeed when sitting the critical Lebanese national examinations<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Discovery Education<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>will also provide\u00a0<\/span>P<\/span>rofessional\u00a0<\/span>Learning<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>100 teachers\u00a0<\/span>to address the challenges\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>remote instruction<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>enabling them to access a diverse set of\u00a0<\/span>new digital\u00a0<\/span>tools to help them deliver online\u00a0<\/span>lessons<\/span>\u00a0to students effectively<\/span>. T<\/span>hrough a series of online workshops, including<\/span>\u00a0but not limited to\u00a0<\/span>remote<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>classroom management, effective teaching strategies for enhancing learning with digital resources<\/span>\u00a0will be offered<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Participating t<\/span>eachers will also become part of\u00a0<\/span>Discovery Educator Network, an<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>online community of practice\u00a0<\/span>comprised of<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>educators from all over the globe.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As students in Lebanon continue to face multi-faceted challenges with an unprecedented high risk of dropping out of school, this first of its kind partnership between Discovery Education and The Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair Refugee Education Fund comes in a timely manner.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The increase in dropouts from secondary education amongst refugees is alarming, whereby\u00a0<\/span>less than<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>2% of Syrian refugees complete<\/span>\u00a0their<\/span>\u00a0secondary education. This program will help students catch up on the education they have missed\u00a0<\/span>\u2013\u00a0<\/span>on<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and off since October 2019<\/span>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/span>through interactive and creative\u00a0<\/span>online\u00a0<\/span>tools and pedagogies<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
